  • This actually reminded me of something Sports Guy wrote today -- I mean, he totally made me gag with all his sympathy for Astros fans (and he's on the bandwagon himself) but he perfectly declared Minute Maid as too "gimicky", citing the stupid-ass hill in the outfield and the shallow-ass left field wall making for some cheap homers.

But Albert's homer was such a legit mofo it hurt.

  • the stadium sound system is DEAFENING - I mean, even with the roof open, you can't have a conversation with the person sitting next to you. every single announcement they make is "yoooooouuuuuuuur houston astros" this and "yoooooouuuuuuuur houston astros" that - it's so patronizing - as if that's going to hypnotize me into feeling a sense of ownership. look, i'm already here, so i'm either an astros fan (in which case back off and leave me alone) or i'm here to see the opposing team, in which case your bellowing "yooooooouuuuuur" is not going to change my mind. they also post a really idiotic amount of info on about four hundred lcd and video boards scattered around the stadium. thanks, but do i relaly need to know that biggio is hitting .809 on days that he had capn crunch for breakfast and wore black socks to the park? geez.

yes i'm the crankiest person alive right now. i have the flu; that's my excuse

    OH PLEASE

    this is pretty awesome though:
Two pitches later, Pujols crushed a hanging slider about 900 feet to give St. Louis the lead, followed by the worst sound in sports -- a sellout crowd shrieking in horror, followed by a prolonged, wailing-like noise, followed by a creepy silence where you only hear the visitors celebrating.

and while i'm not gonna complain about shallow walls making for cheap homers (and neither for that matter should the sports guy), the fucking hill and that train can kiss my ass.
