found this is the comments section of shannon's blog:

"[Suzyn Waldman] said he kept saying, "I don't know what else I could have done" and then Ruben came over and put his arm around him and said, "You did just what you're supposed to do."

while the snarky unforgiving part of me wants to say, "well, you could've not struck out in the first place," but the rest of me is still fuming at one of the worst calls i've ever seen in my whole baseball watching life.

  • And the worst part is, not one sportswriter will bring that point up today. I mean, it's only a teeny-tiny blip in the grand scheme of this series, but the fact that it actually happened in a playoff game is disgusting to me. It's not the reason the Yankees lost, but I don't get why a rule suddenly becomes a rule in that moment, when it's NEVER called at any other time.

That call had better be REALLY popular next season and thereafter. That's all I'm saying.

  • Watch the replay and look where Erstad is standing. If Robbie moves three inches to his right, he will bowl over Erstad who is on the inside of the bag and stretching his glove towards the plate. I'm sure then somehow Cano would be called out anyway and given a "slappy" nickname.

  • Mayday:

    1) Lupe isn't focusing on that. She just mentioned it. You'll know when she's "focusing" on something.

    2) Did I SAY it was a media bias? Because I meant that it will get buried under everything else, not that they're choosing to ignore it willfully. I'm glad it's making the rounds on the radio at least. I have to work and don't have access to radio and TV all day -- hence why I said sportswriter, where I have yet to see it complained about. And the reason it ticked me off is it was a shitty call in a playoff game. It happens a lot, yeah, but it pisses me off that a rule isn't in effect all season just comes about in the playoffs, regardless of what team it happens against. But it is the nature of the beast, I guess.

And a long nap? The way ESPN.com hates on the Yanks every chance they get, I'd be in a coma...

  • To lupe, THAT'S what you're going to focus on, instead reviewing the season as a whole?? That was the most important moment of the game for you??

would you like to refresh my memory as to where i stated as much? i think you need a nap.

  • mayday, it's lupe's blog and she can focus on whatever the fuck she wants. you're not her third grade teacher assigning her an essay on "the season as a whole". who died and made you arbiter of all blog subjects? go jump up your own asshole with a hand grenade.

  • hey mayday, if you want a jillion reasons why the Yankees didn't win, go read the little weasel Lupica's insightful columns about how they are "old" and "don't play as a team" and "have too many all-stars"
